What the roof was like
The owners had a thirty year old cedar roof with failed flashing at two dormers and rot in the roof deck along the lower eave. Water had been getting in behind the gutter for several winters.
What made it hard
The lot drops away steeply behind the house, so there was nowhere to stack material. Panels had to be lifted by crane and every section opened and closed the same day because of the wet forecast.
What we installed, and why
We stripped the cedar in sections, replaced the soft deck, installed a high temperature underlayment and fitted charcoal standing seam panels cut to length. Each dormer and the chimney got a custom flashing, and we added snow guards above the entry.
The result
The house stayed dry through the whole job and the new roof has a clean, simple line that suits the hillside. The owners kept the photographs of the rebuilt dormer flashing for their records.
“They cut the old roof off in sections so the house stayed dry through a wet week, and the crew kept the site clean. The photographs of the dormer flashing were a nice touch.”
