What the roof was like
A deck over a finished room with an old sheet membrane that had shrunk away from the walls and let water in at the corners.
What made it hard
The room beneath is finished, so fire safety and a slow, careful torch were the main concerns. The wall details needed a clean upturn and a surface the cladding could sit over.
What we installed, and why
We tested the deck, installed a base sheet and a cap sheet torched with overlaps staggered, turned the membrane up the walls and installed new metal flashing at the edges before the cladding went back.
The result
The deck has no leaks through a full winter, and the room below was untouched during the work.
